Colloque DESS: Gender access to rehabilitation - a comunity-based participatory research project

Stimuler la réflexion, s’ouvrir à de nouvelles perspectives, suivre l’actualité des recherches, des pratiques et des initiatives en santé publique, débattre: autant de fonctions remplies par les colloques du DESS, où des spécialistes d’horizons divers viennent présenter l’état de leurs recherches, leurs expériences ou leurs projets.

Les événements mis sur pied par le Département épidémiologie et systèmes de santé (DESS) s’adressent à un large public de professionnelles et professionnels de la santé. Recommandé par la Société suisse des spécialistes en prévention et santé publique (SPHD) pour la reconnaissance de la formation continue. Les colloques sont publics!

Gender access to rehabilitation - a comunity-based participatory research project

Countries of conflict and low resources have shown staggeringly high proportions of male rehabilitation users suggesting access barriers for women. Therefore, the multi-country project “GRACE” investigating Gender aspects in Rehabilitation of persons with Amputation in Conflict affected Environments was launched.

Following a retrospective data analysis that profiled rehabilitation users with amputation in conflict countries, the project employed a community-based participatory research approach. In this methodology, researchers and community members are seen as equal experts who jointly design the project, interpret findings and make actionable recommendations. Men and women with amputation as well as health professionals in Cambodia and Ethiopia shared their views on gender-specific factors that influence access to and acceptance of rehabilitation services. In this colloquium, the completed and ongoing work of the GRACE project will be presented
